The decade from 1974 to 1984 is the subject of The Andy Warhol Museum's exhibition - The Downtown Show: The New York Art Scene, 1974-84, which is on view until the 22nd of October, 2006. This is the first substantial retrospective of ten critically important years in the artistic development of New York's downtown district - postmodernism was emerging and Reaganism was lingering. Artists showing will include Vito Acconci, Karen Finley, Cindy Sherman, David Wojnarowicz, Kiki Smith, Jenny Holzer, Nan Goldin, Patti Smith, Nam June Paik, Keith Haring, Richard Hell, Carolee Schneemann, Robert Mapplethorpe, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and many others. Punk, minimalism and techno will feature also (this sounds like paradise). You can get more information here. Because I find Warhol so fascinating - I'm going to indulge and just show pictures of him.
Its great to see pictures like this of Warhol. He was a trail blazer of sorts in the 'production' of art. Having a team of willing fans to do your prints and so on was how his factory was run. Seeing him hands on is rather rare.
Warhol had many admirers and he definitely returned the favor. Here he is with the eighties uberbitch, Joan Collins.
Warhol's famous wig recently was sold at auction for US$10800 (if only).
This one's for you Stocking Face.

Hi Sheila,
These are fantastic pictures! I’m embarrassed to admit I don’t know all that much about Andy Warhol; the first thing that comes to mind when his name is mentioned is his famous Campbell soup can painting. I especially like your picture of his wig that brought in $10,800!
Thanks for this enlightening post!
Oh Sheila, I'm in heaven... if only we could find a sponsor to get us to New York. You've made my day!

I LOVE Andy Warhol! Thanks for sharing him with us!
that's a whole lot of fun...there's a couple great Andy Warhol pieces at the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth that I love.
Pretty amazing thoughts on art.
