Marisa Berenson with Liza and dear Roman Polanski (one of the best auto-biographies ever written is 'Roman by Polanski'. Its a whole different can of worms but I'll discuss this at a later date). Anyway, Liza seems to pull in the crowds despite everything. If you think I'm being hard on dear Liza, you need to stay with me a little longer. See I remember when she used to be a babe and almost an innocent one at that. Yes, Liza.
Here she is when she looked hot. I know she has a strange sort of beauty but who cares. She looks amazing. Oversized eyes and lips. Everyone is trying to implant that now as we speak. She echoes a sort of Christina Onassis persona. No wonder Peter Allen fancied her despite his sexual orientation.

Boy I wonder what really went on in their relationship. I find them to be an intriguing pair. Did she know at first? Did she care? And what about her mother? Every tranny across the globe either wanted to be Judy Garland or be some sort of relation even if it was her son in law.

I see these two as almost sisters. They lived such parallel lives. The drugs, the booze and the talent.

Much love.

I had to put in this coupling. Robert DeNiro with Liza in New York, New York. What's great about this photo is that it represents nothing about who these two really were. And yet the staged innocence of it is remarkably moving.

Here we go. Now this is when she must have been hitting the scene really hard. Here she is with Uri Geller, Alice Cooper and Uri's dear ol' ma.

This one's for you Nash. (Some know it all from South Australia finally bought that Warhol book on ebay!)

Now this is where everyone thinks Liza's fortune went pear shaped. For me it was a delightful union of like minded souls.

Apparently all was not well in the marital bed. That dirty bird Gest has accused dear Liza of giving him herpes. What about all the lergies she sucked out of his waxy mouth? Oh Liza, I wish you all the best.

Hi Sheila,
What fabulous pictures of Liza Minnelli, through which you’ve given us with a mini-history of the various phases of her career. I’d forgotten how captivating she was as a young woman, as we’re usually treated to photos of a rather tired, somewhat bedraggled looking person these days. She reminds me of Debbie Reynolds in the picture where she’s posing at the opening of “Cabaret” in Paris. Perhaps they used the same plastic surgeon. You mentioned her “Christina Onassis” persona when she was young and “hot”; how about Ali MacGraw in “Goodbye, Columbus” or “Love Story”?
Unfortunately, I think Lisa Minelli’s now a “poster person” for the long range effects of cocaine and alcohol abuse. Thanks for another informative and exciting post!
Oh Sheila!
I've never seen that great pic of Liza & Warhol before (others, yes, but not that one!). Thank you - I love it!
I think Liza took on the "mother" role in her relationship with Judy, and then went a bit too far and became a version of her mother. I dunno, I ain't a psychologist...
Liza's had more gay partners than some gay men I know. From what I've read it wasn't long before Liza discovered Peter Allen was messing around with men on the side. As for that Gest creep, what an opportunistic fug he is. I would've loved to see their proposed reality series. What a shame it never eventuated. Can you imagine? That would've been a great insight
You know I saw her perform (along with Sammy Davis jr and Frank Sinatra) back in the good ol' daze
Oh, one last tidbit, someone (I forget who, a singer) was taken by a mutual friend to Liza's apartment to meet her. Before they went inside, the newcomer was warned "Don't ask her about her mother" to which he replied "Who's her mother?"
I could go on all day!
Thanks for another great post (and bugger that SA eBayer)
Hi Sheila,
Gosh, Nash sounds like he could write a biography on Liza Minnelli, doesn’t he? Those were very interesting factoids and I wish he had gone on and on! You’re both are so knowledge about American celebs; it’s most impressive!
Thank you sooo much for these Liza images.
What really amazes me is how much the cast of The Boy From Oz looked like the roles they were playing. Chrissie Amphlett and Judy Garland... separated at birth? And the girl who played Liza was exceptional. This post just reminded me of the fact.
Mind you, Liza looks like she's rotting off the bone a bit now... as did her mother.
David Gest looks like a walking, talking corpse. eeek
It's kind of amazing that after everything she's been through tabloid-wise, she still pulls such an amazing crowd. Who are these fans, and where do they come from?
Gest just creeps me out...
Imet Liza many moons ago... She had just come out of rehab.
I worked in a bookstore in a mall...(Living the dream asateen I tell YA)
and there she was asking me for suggestions....
Would love to remember what else we talked about...
But, I kept on thinking...'Liza Minnelli...Oh,my God it's Liza Minnelli... Liza you really should put on a clean sweatshirt... Black sweats do not hide chocolate stains so well... And did you JUST have a sugar donought as what's with all the icing sugar down the black sweatshirt...Oh,my God You look sooooo bad... Liza you really should take a shower when going out in public... Oh My God, I am talking to Liza Minnelli!!!!!'
She took every book I recommended...
and left...
And she was charming...
Too bad the memory I have is all of how she looked...How superficial am I???
Wait! Don't answer that!!!!
Ah Miss Litzi, I can see the Ali MacGraw similarities, I guess if you take away her googly eyes though.
The six degrees is overwhelming me again Nash. I forgot you went to see that ol' trio. Memories.
Your right about Chrissie Amphlett looking like Judy Garland, Bolton Gray. I think she acts a bit like her too. Did you see her interview on Denton? Her eyes were quite disturbing, Cybil-like in fact. She was promoting her book so I think she was turning up the volume a bit.
Definately true Attila!
I think these fans are people that love to hold on to the past for dear life, Jay.
Pendullum, what a delight! If I was in your shoes I would have definately focused on the chocolate stains also. Brilliant!
